Yum Yum Donuts Tour

On Wednesday February 23rd we went to Yum Yum Donuts to learn how donuts are made. The kids got to see & play with the dough, check out the proof box, cooling racks, donut depositor & then see them fried, flipped & fished out on a stick.

Then it was time for the REAL fun to begin! Two wary volunteers stood before a piece of counter top equipment and unexpectedly received a handful of vanilla cream while learning how the filling machine functions.

Next they each got to:
- pick a donut: filled or empty?
- choose a filling flavor: vanilla, chocolate, custard, peanut butter, raspberry, apple, or lemon
- select a frosting: chocolate, vanilla, maple, or strawberry
- finally the sprinkle decision: chocolate, vanilla, or crazy Spring type colors?

Ready... Set... Sugar Rush! The donuts took much longer to create than they did to disappear. As sweet silence descended the kids filed out to the store front to enjoy their treats while the moms, who were donut devoid, attempted to clean out the donut bins "taking donuts home for" siblings, husbands or any other soul lucky enough to be visiting today.

If you get a chance it's well worth the $1 per person to create your own fantasy donut. I would also suggest buying your dozen (or so) donuts BEFORE the tour because there won't be many to choose from afterwards since Yum Yum more than lives up to its name!
