Earth Day
On April 28th we celebrated Earth Day by going to one of our local parks and participating in a Park Clean-Up en masse. They provided the orange vests, gloves, and trash bags. We provided the bodies, eyes & hands. We were all a little surprised at the amount and types of debris that gathered in the park!
Some of the items we found:
bottles
cups
cigarette butts
bits of plastic
string
a glove
gum wrappers
bottle caps
band-aids
twist ties
cellophane food packaging
a park map box (which had been pulled off it's post & tossed into the woods)
But the grossest thing by far that we found were several stashes of doggie walk bags! Several someones took the time to clean up after their dogs only to then leave the bags in stashes around the park. Ew!
After a quick trip to the facilities to wash hands and return our vests & gloves we were pleasantly surprised to be rewarded with pizza by the park as a Thank You to all the volunteers. In all it was a comfortable walk in the woods with friends & family helping to make a small corner of our world a little more beautiful.
